WHO WAS KING TUTANKHAMUN?
LIFE
- King Tutankahamun, or King Tut, was born in 1343 BC.
- His birth name was Tutankaten, which means the living image of Aten.
- The true identity of his father is still a mystery. Although there is evidence that points to the Amenhotp III, most people believe it was the Pharaoh Akhenaten.
- Tut became pharaoh when he was only 9 years old.
- He married his half sister Ankhensenpaaton and had one daughter, Nefertiti.
- He died when he was about 18.
- The cause of his death remains a mystery to this day. Although, some people believe he was murdered.
- He had no male offspring to take the throne after death so one of his top advisers took it.
LIFE AS PHARAOH
- When Akhenaten was pharaoh he changed the religious system. Most people didn't agree with this so when Tut came to power, he had to rule a chaotic and angry Egypt.
- King tut changed the religious ways back to the original beliefs.
- He changed his name to Tutankhamun and his wife's to Ankhesenamun to show his support for the God Amun.
- He did very little during time as pharaoh compared to other pharaohs.
